Everyday packing for a child with a Feeding Tube

Creating an everyday packing list for a child with a feeding tube requires thoughtful consideration to ensure all necessary items are included to support their health and comfort. Below is a comprehensive list to help parents and caregivers prepare for daily outings or school days.

1. Feeding Supplies:

  • Feeding Pump and Charger: Ensure the pump is fully charged and pack the charger for extended outings.

  • Feeding Bags: Bring enough pre-filled or empty feeding bags for the duration of the outing.

  • Formula or Blended Food: Pack the required amount of formula or blended food, ensuring it stays at the right temperature (consider using an insulated lunch bag).

  • Syringes: Have multiple syringes on hand for feeding and administering medication.

  • Extension Sets: Pack extra extension sets in case of spills or contamination.

2. Medical and Emergency Supplies:

  • Gauze and Tape: Essential for securing the feeding tube and addressing any leaks or skin irritation.

  • Medications: Bring all necessary medications with clear instructions and dosage information.

  • Hand Sanitizer and Wipes: Maintain hygiene before handling the feeding tube or food.

  • Emergency Contact Information: Include a list of emergency contacts, including the child’s healthcare provider.

3. Comfort and Convenience Items:

  • Change of Clothes: Pack an extra set of clothes in case of spills or accidents.

  • Comfort Items: Include the child’s favorite toy or blanket to ease anxiety.

  • Water Bottle: Ensure the child stays hydrated, as hydration is vital for overall health.

  • Snack for Caregiver: Pack a small snack for yourself to avoid any distractions during caregiving.

By preparing this everyday packing list, you can help ensure that your child’s nutritional and medical needs are met, allowing for a smoother and more enjoyable day. Always double-check the list before heading out to guarantee nothing is forgotten.

A Quick Update

Care Package Applications Are Temporarily Paused

We are temporarily pausing care package applications so we can catch up on the nearly 5,000 requests we have already received!

As a one-person team, I personally review and prepare our care packages while also navigating my own journey with chronic illness. I work on them around medical appointments and whenever my health allows, so the process can take longer than I would like. Every package is put together with love and the hope of bringing a little happiness to someone going through a difficult time.

Please don’t be discouraged! We plan to reopen applications as soon as we have caught up. Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and support. Please stay tuned for updates!
